There’s no secret that Greta Gerwig is pretty much a founding-mother of romantic dramas, but which are the best ones? In today’s list let’s take a look at her best moments!

NUMBER 5: Mistress America

For number 5, let’s start with Mistress America.

Greta Gerwig plays the character of the kooky-fun stepsister. Gerwig also wrote this film along side Noah Baumbach. The movie features main character, Lola, suffering a severe amount of lonesomeness due to being in college alone and not knowing anyone in the big apple. Lola finds herself falling into the crazy-fun schemes of her step sister and the film unravels from there.

Mistress America is a fun story with moments that will both pull on your heart strings and make you laugh. It is definitely worth a watch.

NUMBER 4: GREENBERG

Another film written by Noah Baumbach (this guy just writes bangers honestly) is Greenberg.

Let me just say, any film featuring a failed musician hits me right in my heart strings every time. Ben Stiller takes the lead in this one while Gerwig plays a support role.

Together Stiller and Gerwig form a bond that is both adorable and heartfelt after finding out they are both just two lost people trying to find their way. This film is filled with all the drama and comedy you need and I’d highly recommend.

NUMBER 3: FRANCES HA

Okay, now we’re gettin’ into the GOOD stuff. A beautiful comedy-drama film by the one and only Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig, Frances Ha.

Gerwig takes the lead role as a struggling 20-something dancer who’s just trying to make it by in New York. Frances throws herself head-first into her dreams, but often finds herself in reckless, self-destructive situations.

From one moment to the next this movie will keep your head spinning.

NUMBER 2: LADY BIRD

WHEN I SAW THIS MOVIE….let me just say it changed my life. It made me want to write, it made me want to scream, it made me want to change my name to something and make everyone call me it and nothing else.

The film is written by Gerwig and is a career best. Lady Bird centers around the tipsy-turvy relationship between Lady and her mother while Lady prepares for college. Lady Bird learns in the end to remember who you are and where you came from.

Lady Bird is a masterpiece and deserves an amble amount of respect. I would consider Lady Bird to be one of the all-time greatest coming of age films. The amount of mother-daughter struggle and the way it is perfectly crafted through dialogue is insane. It’s no wonder this movie has a 4/5 on Letterboxd and a literal 99 on Rotten Tomatoes.

I cannot recommend this movie more if you haven’t seen it, please, go watch it.

Seriously like right now.

NUMBER 1: LITTLE WOMEN

Listen, I think we all knew I was going to pick this masterpiece of a film for number one. This movie has some of the best acting, costuming, and direction I have ever seen. I would say this is probably my favorite movie.

Gerwig directs and writes this film while the movie itself stars a star-studded cast. But its not the stars that make this movie feel so incredible, it’s the world building and the acting. Through the direction of Gerwig both of these things were made possible.

Little Women takes place right after the Civil War and tells the tale of four sisters. One a writer, one who wants to be an artist, one who falls sick, and one who is married to a school teacher.

This movie does well to stay close to the original and not sway too much. It keeps that feeling the first Little Women gave us, but improves in a theatrical sense.

I would highly recommend this movie to anyone.
